new friends, jazz-age style
This past weekend, I met the lovely lovely Steph of old new charm and her beau at the 7th Annual Jazz Age Lawn Party on Governor’s Island. This wasn’t our first time attending the 20s-themed day féte, but increasing interest in Baz Luhrmann’s [delayed, boooo] upcoming adaptation of The Great Gatsby and the various recent runway collections inspired by the prohibition era (see Gucci Spring 2012 and Ralph Lauren Spring 2012) mean a once-niche interest for a handful of people is suddenly getting a lot of love. The event was the most crowded we had ever seen it — but this didn’t damper our enjoyment of excellent company, a breezy, sunny day and the nifty jazz-age sounds coming from Michael Arenella and His Dreamland Orchestra. Jazz age resurgence and new friends are just the cat’s meow.
Yay for new friends!!
